Storyline

Shipper

Requires quotations for the product they need to ship to various locations. The product may be full truck load, less than truckload, or parcels. The shipper is always looking for reliable, cost effective, trustworthy, on-time delivery, transparent carriers.

The shipper will tender the load to the carrier and expects the following:

  • Notification of delays
  • Live shipment Tracking
  • Customer Portal to view Invoice, POD, request quotes etc.
  • Pay the carrier online
  • Check carrier operating authorities and insurances, WCB compliance
  • Check carrier safety scores
  • Check carrier carbon footprint

Driver at Home

When the driver is at home, he will receive notifications of the shipments he would be assigned with the expected delivery date and location. The driver will accept the assignment or contact the company to advise them otherwise.

The driver may review the following while at home:

  • Safety Performance
  • Notices issued by the employer
  • Request time off for vacation etc
  • Review ELD records and certify them
  • Logout from the ELD remotely
  • Start the vehicle remotely
  • Check the vehicle’s performance and DTC and upcoming maintenance
  • Complete the maintenance records and upload documents
  • Tracking the assigned vehicle (This becomes handy if he is required to take the vehicle on next trip).
  • Check payroll and shipment completed.
  • Approve or disapprove the video footage requested by the employer.
  • Communicate with the employer/colleagues (Whatsapp functionality)
  • Mark the vehicle as parked (Armed) (We will alert the driver if it moves without getting disarmed)
  • Check the reefer temperature, fuel level, running status
  • View and complete required training (material: video, documents)
  • Fuel rates, truck stops, weather, parking stops, POI(truck dealers, mechanic shops, tire repair shops, walmart, scales)

Driver at the Terminal

When the driver is at the employer’s terminal (Yard) to pick up the vehicle and trailers to complete the assigned work, he is expected of the following :

  • Login to the ELD
  • Complete Pre Trip Inspection by inspecting the vehicle and reporting any defects. Take pictures
  • Check the vehicle paperwork. (Insurance, CVIP, permits etc)
  • Hook/Drop Trailers to the correct trailer
  • Start the trip and follow all of the instructions and route defined by the dispatch department
  • Communicate with the dispatch department of any delays or concerns
  • Complete the CTPAT Inspection

Driver in transit

While the driver is driving the vehicle, he is responsible for safe operation of the vehicle and follows the defined route.

The driver is expected of the following:

  • Follow the navigation
  • Operate the vehicle in safe manner avoid sharp cornering, sudden acceleration/deceleration
  • No distracted driving and wear a seatbelt (Video Monitoring via dashcam) and follow safe distances.
  • Maximize the vehicle’s fuel efficiency.
  • Report to Dot Scale or response to traffic stops by the enforcement officer.
  • Communicate any accidents or incidents to the safety department
  • Clear borders with proper clearance documents.
  • Follow the cargo securement regulations
  • Fuel up the vehicle and reefer as required

Driver at Shipper/Receiver

When the driver is at the shipper or receiver he is responsible for safe loading and unloading of the vehicle and report and Overage/Shortage/Damage items. The driver is expected of the following:

  • Communicate with the dispatch department of the arrival and departure
  • Provide the shipper with the pickup number and follow instructions provided by the dispatch department.
  • Follow the instructions of the shipper or receiver. Only open doors when instructed
  • Follow the safe speed instructions
  • Secure the cargo as per cargo securement regulations.
  • Take pictures of the cargo.
  • Scan BOL/Custom Clearance Documents
  • Check the weight of the cargo
  • Report any available space or weight allowance.
  • Set the reefer temperature/mode
  • Check the height of the cargo
  • Complete CTPAT Inspection

Driver at the DOT Scale

The drivers are required to report to open scales. The driver/vehicle may be inspected by the enforcement officer. The driver is expected of the following:

  • Share ELD data with the enforcement officer
  • Share the trip inspection data with the enforcement officer
  • Provide the insurance and permits to the enforcement officer.
  • Get the vehicle inspected
  • Report any defects discovered to the safety department
  • Upload the inspection report into the ELD System
  • Communicate the delay with the safety/dispatch department

Driver at the Border Crossing

When the driver is hauling a shipment that is crossing the border, the driver is required to report to customs. The driver is expected of the following:

  • Only cross border with all paper is cleared including ACE/ACI
  • Get the proper clearance stamps on the custom paperwork
  • Upload the customer paperwork into the ELD
  • Communicate any inspection with the dispatch department
  • Present Passport and/or Visas
  • Complete the C-TPAT inspection

Driver using the ELD

The driver is required to use the ELD to maintain record of duty status and comply with regulation. Also the ELD will incorporate many other functions as described below:

  • Use the ELD as required (Highway and Local Operation) and Exempt Driver and Enable Terminal Moves
  • ELD collects and transmits the following information:
    • GPS Location Data
    • TPMS (tire pressure monitoring) Data & Tire Temperature Data
    • Vehicle diagnostic information
    • DVIR compliance using NFCs and Camera
    • C-TPAT compliance using NFCs and Camera
    • Dispatch and Trip Information (Arrival,Departure, Border Data)
    • Vehicle and Driver Performance data
    • Video Telematic Data
    • Vehicle and Driver’s compliance data (CVIP,Insurance etc)
    • 2-way communication with BackOffice and Colleagues.
    • Fuel Usage and Fuel Tax Reporting Data.
    • Door Sensor and Temperature Data
    • Braking System performance Data
    • Vehicle Remote Starting Data
    • Scanned Document Data
    • Navigation (Sygic,CoPilot or Google Maps)
    • Armed and disarming of Vehicle to prevent theft
    • Trailer Hook and Drop Off Tracking
    • Scale Bypass System
    • Geofencing for notification such as Scale Stops, Mechanic Shops etc.
    • Checking the weight of the vehicle

Trailer Tracking

Zora Technology supplies customers with trailer tracking and reefer temperature monitoring. The hardware is the same as trailer tracking but with added sensors to monitor the temperature and humidity.
